Cathy's Tasting Notes Upon Release:
The ripening season in 2000 was particularly long with warm days and cold nights yielding wines with unrivaled color, extraordinary complexity and perfect balance.

Spice and mineral notes complement layers of red fruit flavors including black cherries, currants and plums.  Delicious and approachable upon release, now with several years in the bottle, it is resolved and harmonious and has developed a lovely perfume of violets and lavender.  Fine grained tannins make it easy to enjoy. Its firm structure and moderate alcohol, at 13.6%, help it to grace the table. The finish goes on and on.

Cathy's Notes from 25 Vintage Retrospective Tasting, October 2014:
Dark red. Savory, dark fruit including plum, cassis, blueberry preserves, earthy minerality, cedar, spice, toast, perfume of dried flowers.

VINOGRAPHY: a wine blog
Dark ruby in color, this wine smells of rich black cherry, graphite, licorice, and forest floor. In the mouth, graphite, forest floor, dark cherry and plum skin mix with a juicy citrusy acidity under a blanket of fleecy tannins. Big and robust, this wine has a depth and intensity that is quite powerful despite being incredibly light on its feet. Notes of forest floor graphite and a bit of leather linger in the finish. Excellent acidity. Phenomenal. 13.6% alcohol. Score: between 9.5 and 10.

Wine Spectator Weekly

Supple and harmonious, it wins points with its sense of understatement, with spicy currant, black cherry and plummy notes, that are well-balanced and rich without being too powerful.  Fine-grained tannins make it easy to enjoy now.   90 points                                                                                                           August 14, 2003

****  "Excellent (and not overdone or pushed too far): fragrant, distinct and fine in the nose; supple, full-bodied, crisp and moderately intense in flavor (red currant, blackberry, cherry, plum, spicy oak) and long on the finish."                                                                                                          -Ronn Wiegand, September/October 2003
