This three-bottle boxed set includes one bottle each of the 2009, 2010 and 2011 Corison Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

A third year of drought kept the crop size down in 2009. A mild, relatively cool growing season followed by a moderate September and cold October made for an uncommonly long ripening season. Resulting flavors are wildly complex with juicy fruit flavors ranging from black cherries and blueberries through plums all the way to cassis and blackberries. Cedar, anise, baking spice and chocolate top notes add layers of interest. Appealing floral notes of violets, lavender and rose petals are already gracing the aromas and a lovely dusty minerality signals a very special vintage.

Rainfall returned in 2010 after three years of drought, pushing bud break, flowering and fruit-set back by at least two weeks at the beginning of the growing season. The summer brought cooler than normal temperatures so the lag continued into the ripening season. A two-day heat spike toward the end of August caused some sunburn, which required very selective picking. The cool growing season continued until a lovely Indian Summer set in in late September and October bringing the grapes to full ripeness. The long, cool season and small crop yielded a wine of uncommon concentration.  Dark, brooding flavors of berries and cassis dance with dusty minerality, baking spices and violet perfume!

My 25th vintage, a quarter century!  Somehow it seems fitting that the 2011 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon hails from one of the most challenging, but ultimately rewarding vintages of my winemaking career. Taking long and cool out to the limit, 2011 broke records for cool, closing with a big dose of rain. Luckily, seasons like this play handily into my style, favoring an elegant and refined expression of Cabernet Sauvignon. My well-drained, gravelly benchland sites promote early ripening.

The 2011 is certainly a candidate for one of my favorite vintages ever, displaying the entire range of Cabernet fruit flavors from black cherry and blueberry through plum, cassis and blackberry with cameos played by black raspberry and lingonberry, shored up by bracing natural acidity and firm and grippy, but velvety, tannins. A wonderful mineral streak and forest-floor earthiness run up the middle and a precocious violet perfume enhances the aromas. Grace notes include cocoa, espresso and savory sage, thyme, allspice and coriander. It feels supple and textural in the mouth- luscious. This calls for lamb!Cathy Corison

2009 Corison Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California   Dark garnet in color, this wine smells of green herbs, black cherry, forest floor and a hint of graphite. In the mouth, blueberry and black cherry fruit mix with wet earth and crushed stones. Bright juicy acidity and muscular, fine grained tannins. Long and juicy. Tight. This wine will be quite long lived judging by its acidity and structure. Excellent. 13.6% alcohol. Score: around 9.5.Alder Yarrow,, 6.27.2015

93+  The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is drop-dead gorgeous. An intense, reticent wine, the 2010 is endowed with serious density, depth and structure. This is one of the most powerful, tightly coiled wines of the year. It will require considerable time in bottle but all the elements are in the right place. Plums, iron, cloves, violets, licorice and smoke all flesh out on the firm, structured finish. This is a fabulous wine with a great future, a superb effort from Cathy Corison.Antonio Galloni, November 2013
95  Cathy Corison’s 2011 cabernet sauvignon is her twenty-fifth harvest at her own winery, and not surprisingly the queen of Napa Valley elegance has produced a stellar wine in the cooler year of 2011. The wine is a ripe, but suave 13.7 percent and wafts from the glass in a stellar constellation of red and black cherries, a fair bit of Rutherford Dust, tobacco leaf, beautiful soil tones, a hint of eucalyptus, fresh herb tones and a very refined base of new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure, a superb core of fruit, absolutely seamless balance, great focus and complexity and a very long, youthful and ripely tannic finish of impeccable focus and grip… The 2011 is one of Cathy Corison’s finest young vintages that I have had the pleasure to taste, which is saying something, considering this remarkable woman’s superb track record for classic Napa cabernets!John Gilman, Jul/Aug 2014, Issue #52
