Cathy Corison's tasting notes upon release:

Kronos Vineyard Cabernets are unique for their intensity of dark, brooding plum, cassis and blackberry fruit, floral notes on the nose and a wonderful broad, silky feel in the mouth.

1996  Black cherries and Rutherford dust in the aromas.  Warm, inviting flavors of boysenberry pie with hints of mocha and peppermint.  Starting to show some nice bottle bouquet.  Firm balance will allow this wine to evolve for many years.

1997  The 1997 vintage is a precious jewel in a string of great vintages from the 1990’s.  A warm, early spring was followed by a moderate, even summer allowing the fruit to reach optimal maturity slowly.  The 1997 has delightfully layered earthy, chocolate, anise, coffee and tar notes to complement its juicy fruit flavors for a remarkably complex wine.

1998  Severe crop thinning at veraison in 1998 brought the maturity in the vineyard into a narrow range allowing us to pick at optimum, uniform ripeness.  The ripening season was long and cool allowing great complexity to develop.  The 1998 has delightfully layered earthy, chocolate, anise, coffee and tar notes to complement its juicy fruit flavors for a remarkably complex wine.

Reviews:

1996

The Wine Spectator
"Firm and focused, with ripe and intense cherry, currant and blackberry, turning supple and polished and holding its flavors for a long, complex aftertaste..."    reviewed 1999

John Winthrop Haeger, www.oenosite.com
Brilliant deep garnet.  Tar, black pepper, clove and allspice on the nose; lovely, suave, smooth and tightly-knit on the palate, like velour; also elegant and intense; a beautiful, sleek, dark wine with an attractive mineral underlay.   Beautiful now, but still full of life.    12/2016

1997

California Grapevine
Medium-dark ruby; attractive, intense, complex, spicy, cedary, ripe currant, blackberry, and cassis aroma with a note of black pepper; full body; big, rich, concentrated, dense, cedary, ripe currant and black cherry fruit flavors with hints of tar and coffee; medium-full tannin... lingering aftertaste.  Very highly recommended.    February-March 2001

1998

The New York Times:
"Worthy Splurge
: Cathy Corison Napa Valley Kronos Cabernet Sauvignon 1998.  A bad vintage?  Try this well-aged specimen and see if you don't think some beautiful Napa cabernets were made that year."    The 12 Best Restaurants in New York for Wine, Eric Asimov, October 8, 2013
